I do abstract painting which I then photograph. I have sold the photographs for light box and digital displays. While some may say that taking a photograph of a painting is cheating, I make the paintings for the purpose of photographing them so it is all part of the single process of producing a piece of art.
Usually I make a large piece like this one and then photograph pieces of it to make a color series. I like this one as a whole though.
Thoughts?
Oh man, Ruth, this is my favorite of your abstracts no doubt. Color palette is superb. Absolutely gorgeous.
Is this in your portfolio? I need to get some stars on that...
Just put it in! Thanks Joe! The painting for this one is hanging in the house. I really like it too!
Wonderful work Ruth, how do you create the effect when painting (in layman's terms....)?
The easiest way to explain is this:. I put the paints all in a pitcher without agitation so they don't blend. Then I pour the pitcher onto the canvas and tilt, shake, roll and move the canvas to spread the paint. It it much harder than it sounds when I write this - or at least it feels like it! But the it essentially it!
Hi Ruth, Indeed a very good abstract frame. i like the riot yet the soothing subtlety. i like the way vision was made to zig zag from white at the bottom and back the composition of blacks. the highlight at the right was distracting a bit. For academics, cropped and rotated. share you views. thanks
Ironically, this is how it is hung in the house. I'm not sure what prompted me to post it flipped. The is the cool part of abstracts though! Thanks for the feedback.
About the white spot. There is more of the painting off to that side and the white blob is large and distracting. I thought a sliver of it was needed as an anchor for the black lines but maybe not. This crop does look good. Interestingly, the blob is not bothersome in the painting but is in the photograph.
Thanks Vijay.
