Andrew Williams's picture

Wildwood, 1977

If I were shooting this today, I might move the horizon. Maybe not, as there were virtually no clouds.

Very thought provoking Andrew! I'm not sure if I'm seeing a summer beach goer napping (there is a guard in the chair so it could be in season). Or it could be out of season because there are so few people so he is cold and huddled but trying to take advantage of his only opportunity to visit the beach. Or, he could be homeless. Or he could be dead. Or....

All this thinking means this is a terrific image! So much story potential! I would not change a thing about it.

Well done. Looking forward to more from you!

It was actually a late weekday afternoon in July. I suspect that person sitting in the distant lifeguard's chair was not a lifeguard, because there is also an empty lifeguard's chair closer to the camera. I think they were gone for the day. And it was MUCH more crowded earlier.
