Ruth Carll's picture

Interesting or Not?

I'm not sure if I think this is cool and interesting or .... just not.

It is a record.

The image caught my eye. The light reflecting off the record creates somewhat of a randomness that would be challenging for me to create intentionally. Cool in black and white, but also some potential with toning / color filters that would allow you to present as a series or as a triptych / diptych.

If I'm honest Ruth, once the initial intrigue of discovering what the image is there is not enough interest to hod the eye.

The light patterns and texture is good though, and this might work as a series with different angles/colors as Robert points out.

what if you include a little bit of the center thing up in the corner? Maybe showing the artist's name, maybe not. Would that ruin your abstractity?

fantastic texture im wondering how it would look as a layer in a mixed photo image

Interesting. I never thought about shooting backgrounds. An interesting direction for an abstract lover like myself. Hmmmm. Thanks Joe!

Joseph, what are you on lately? And can I have some?

Lmao Chris you crack me up

VERY cool and interesting, Ms Carll! Just try doing THAT with a download... I think I've got more tolerance for more minimalist minimalism than Alan. I find this somewhat hypnotic.

:) I could see this having interest in a very targeted application - like a recording studio or something. I like it but, like you, can go for the super minimal.

What I like about the abstract style is that it is the literal representation of something that looks unreal / unidentifiable. I think that is why I like abstracts so much. They are real stuff that no one would see if it wasn't captured in a photograph. It's like whipping back the curtain and saying "Check this out - didn't see that coming did you!?" Like in this image, I didn't know that the grooves in an album were this detailed (silly I know!)

I'm old (or retro-cool!) enough to recognise it instantly, Ruth, but I think it'd be even better if I couldn't, personally. I love toughing out what the hell totally ambiguous images portray.

Me too! And my first album was vinyl and my second was an 8 track! ;)

8-track! Way cool!

maybe - until you learn that it was Sean Cassidy DaDuRunRun. Ya - I'm blushing.

You should. Blame it on youth. Youth IS wasted on the young.

I wish I had taken it in color but I shot it in black and white. ;(
