The most important is your opinion. If you're happy with it. Nice try, sadly this is not my cup of tea.

All imagery is subjective and all opinions are opinionated.............
This was a good attempt..........try it when it's overcast. Your image has quite a few hot spots. Shooting on an overcast day will draw the viewers attention to the colors and patterns...........you're doing good ........keep trying.

Thanks !
Never considered weather an issue when shooting for abstract ...

An issue......no. A suggestion, yes.

I didn't really mean an issue, I actually meant an element to take into account (I'm not native English ...).
But your point is taken and I will experiment with it.

Hi Ian, solid early attempts.

I think in your 1st image the vertical movement is well suited (as it typically is for trees). Your movement follows the form of the trees and brings out beautiful detail in the bark of the tree on the right.
Unfortunately the bright areas detract from the image, and I think a longer/slower vertical pan may have created a more dreamy effect.

The 2nd image doesn't work for me as the angle of movement does not work with the subject as well.

I understand it is important to shoot using a variety of speeds and techniques to find out what works best in any given situation - did you take others?

Like you I am experimenting myself. I have just uploaded some images to my blog as part of a project, some of which are ICM (taken on my iPhone) if you want to check out;

At the end of the day the only opinion that matters is your own. If you have doubts/wish to get better there is some great inspirational work that can be found by a simple ICM search on internet/YouTube.

Thanks, I really appreciate this kind of extensive feedback !
These 2 were the best of about 10 I shot that day. I tend to experiment with shutter speed and speed of movement etc. .

Sounds good. As results are so variables I think a lot of experimentation is needed so you can figure out what works for you, and to ensure you have fun doing so!
Definitely check out the work of others to see what is possible.
