Bleeding Building

A little morbid perhaps but all the same, this screened window is on a derelict building. The entire building is monotone in gray decay and then underneath these windows is bright red rust. It looked like the building had bled out. It was striking and I wanted to share it.

Hi Ruth, second image, the grass twiquees at the window looks interesting. a tighter crop in another composition can also be thought of.

Both of these are my sort of image, Ruth. Were there two different windows, or do you have an "Add Decay" preset? I want it too!

Interesting how similar the two windows are, with that rust stain. Both images work well, the first in its minimalism, and the second in your delicate compositional balance between the window and especially that "rising" stain on the right.

I'd be tempted to try various renditions with such an abstract image, as you could depart from reality without it looking contrived. In doing this edit, I guess I was thinking of the beautiful texture of scumbled oil paint which it evoked, although it's only in hindsight that I can see this. You should try painting... oh yes, you do already!

Your head would explode at the location. It is a large old military site would literally dozens of old crumbled buildings. The textures are amazing. The difficulty is that the monotony in color of crumbling cement makes you really have to work to pull interesting things from it.

It is also difficult to photograph on a larger scale as most of the ruins are fenced and signed with warnings to stay out. These windows for example are actually 2 of a row of 5. This wall would make an amazing image but it is about 15 feet back from a chain link fence. When I tried using my widest angle lens, it distorted and lost the linear aspect of the windows.

I did a series of doors and windows this past weekend and will post them over the next few days. Decay here we come!
