Hi All,
I am wondering if these have any appeal. I'm cleaning out the archive. I like the 'guardrails and grass' but they don't get much in the way of feedback when I use them. I am interested in your thoughts. The other two are similar content so I thought I'd include them. They aren't meant to be a series.
Feedback welcome!
I think these strong images, and could form part of a series, in fact, Ruth. They all share a graphic quality, and there is a powerful dynamism in the middle two, which make an interesting pairing, a bit of yin-yang, with that similar sweeping curve through them, but with tonalities largely reversed. They're all strong compositions, something you're good at generally. I would certainly keep all of them in your place. In fact, I'm doing so myself!
With all due respect to the Community, there are all levels of experience and artistic sophistication on FS. By the very fact of posting and commenting (or even rating), people show enthusiasm here, but I note that, for instance, rarely do people mention even famous artists and photographers in their comments, suggesting a limited level of familiarity with the visual arts generally. And landscapes, for instance, tend to be "epic" (the spirit of Albert Bierstadt lives on) and rate well for being so. Which is fine, but it means that many might only look at these images briefly, and I think often not "get" what you're doing at all.
A friend of mine, a good photographer with whom I hope to exhibit, recently looked at FS after hearing me talk about it, and dismissed the forum as showing images of a poor standard. However, he didn't register, and find "my" niche. I've found my niche, and several of us as you know take a particular interest in each other's activities here, no doubt because of mutual respect for each other's work, and for the civility and stimulating nature of our discussions. So, the general rating of these images here would not I think reflect the rating they'd get from us art junkies.
I'd rather see these than yet more epic Godafoss any day! :-)
I couldn't agree more Chris. If it weren't for these "minor" groups, where there is such a great variety and support from people of all levels and interests, I don't think I would find this site quite so interesting. I only wish more novices would comment as it just enrichess the conversation for me. I look forward to your comments Chris! I cherish them and you.
I really like the third, especially, Ruth. It suggests music, with that treble-clef-like curve, and the dancing movement in it.
As Chris indicates these are all strong graphical images.I think abstracts like this tend to be the most subjective of all, and can see why appeal may be varied.
I happen to like them. Although not meant to be a series I think additional images similar to #3 & #4 (my favorites) would make a compelling set (perhaps a new project?).
At the end of the day I don't think it really matters how people rate images, we all create work (or should) to match our own artistic inclinations. There will always be some that agree or disagree, but I think it's important to remain true to your own vision.
Hmmmm I shadow project. Great idea!
I find #2 to be fascinating. I really like the high contrast of the shadow cast by the 'teeth' on the left mirrored by faint shadow left by the impression (?) of the teeth. Almost like the memory of a shadow next to the real thing.
