A little Calm Blue for Trying Times

Hi All,

Sorry it has been a while. Lots of new faces here. YEA!

I've been wanting to post this one from my friends Chris and Alan - just had them in mind when I took it. ICM technique inspired by Alan and blue for my friend down under.

This is a group of trees in the water at the local reservoir. It is fairly straight from the camera. It was a little misty and the sun was out and low behind me. (Leave it to the Jersey Shore to be misty and bright!)

I'd love all of your thoughts!

Hi Ruth! Good to see you posting and commenting again. And you're in fine form! I'm not a great fan of this kind of imagery as a genre in general, but as with some of Alan's ICM images, this one really appeals - and yes, I love the blue, thanks! There is a lovely buoyant, uplifting quality to it, a hint of magic. I love the way those soft streaks float, hovering around that central deeper blue band.

I love this Ruth! Soooooo good to see you back!

I think the reason so many ICM images fail (including dare I say it my own) is that their base lies solely on the effect of the movement.

If there is one thing I have learned during experimentation is that images still have to follow the basic rules of composition, storytelling, lighting, color etc

With all photographic preconceptions put to one side, this is upon viewing a piece of art, no matter how constructed. I love the fact that you have not felt the need to make objects discernable and allow the viewer to question. This evokes such a calm and peaceful emotion, really is a joy.

Pure and simple, whether a photograph or not this is a beautiful piece of work, one I could easily imagine as a very large canvas that would elevate any wall in home or business.

Although jealous, I am left wanting to see more Ruth!

Indeed. This could be a painting - a very good one. Which is more or less where Ruth started this artistic journey. I like both media, but tend to keep them separate in my mind - not that I recommend that as a better way, just how it is for me. If I didn't know, I couldn't begin to tell which medium this originated in.
