Baby got back! Nice shot, how big is it? Looks to have a pretty developed set of wings and a huge abdomen. Could be a gravid (pregnant) female. Was it taken in the fall?
Hey Troy, the mantis was probably between 2 to 3 inches long and taken in autumn. It put up with me for about 20 minutes before giving me the flick - lovely :o))) Here is another one as it journeyed around my garden.
Yeah, that would be an adult and most likely a female full of eggs. It ones I'm taking pics of are still only about a half inch long or so and are a bet more shy, but I've still found a few willing to give me 2-3 minutes.
I like the different take and focus on the beautiful details of the back. Saturation is nicely controlled, and what we've come to expect from your work.
