Chloe Kramer's picture

Moon

Not sure whether this counts as minimalism, but it's a solo subject that I was playing with so. I took these the other night, and while there isn't a lot going on I really like them. Any CC or thoughts are welcome!

These certainly have a minimalist aspect in my view, Chloe. I like the halo in the first image, but prefer the moon not being on the midline in the second. The moon's surface is fuzzy in the second - OOF?

You seem to have used f/45, probably an indicated nominal f/22 if your lens has a manual aperture ring, which becomes f/45 at 300mm. I'd have used the other end! f/22 will be noticeably fuzzy, let alone f/45, and it lengthens your exposure. If you can get enough light into the camera by opening up the aperture, you can have the choice of having more "going on" if you want it - stars & planets.

Having said that, I DO like your less-going-on approach here.

BTW you're building up a nice portfolio! It's a pleasure to see your work evolving. I'm glad you're active in the community. I'd be interested to read your comments on others' work, too. You have an eye, as the saying goes, and a creative streak.

How does this edit look? I ended up bringing up the noise reduction to fix a weird texture on the moon, but I think I fixed it a different way.

A lot better, Chloe.

That level of niose reduction would wipe out any stars. Again, not suggesting you need stars, but you can do quite a lot with the moon & stars with normal photo gear if you ever want to.

I like asymmetry, but this composition takes it to a whole new level!
