I had just begun my journey of photography in new avatar, learning and understandings. Back then had older cropped sensor & basic kit Lense. Had gone to a heritage place in a photography tour. At a place, other fellows were clicking their FRAMES FULLy filled through ultra wides.
After a while I decided to make the best of what I had. spotted a tree in harsh mid-day sun (by then).
This was clicked a couple of years back. Re-processed with recent learnings of Photoshop & LR.

Nice job, Vijay! Your work is becoming more refined, and you've shown a distinct personal style from the outset, although I'd find it hard to put into words what characterises it. One common aspect is use of moderate contrast, like that between the light top 2/3, and dark bottom 1/3. This gives your images a restraint, subtlety and maturity lacking in many OTT, look-at-me! images on FS, IG and pretty much everywhere else. Your yin-yang here, including that in the selective focus, is not extreme but still highly effective.
Perennial source of disagreement is the use of borders as part of the image. You've done it before, and do it well, but I still want to picture this image without the dark border, framed separately. I think it would bear being looked at for a long time, and not lose its effect. But that's me, and this is your image, and a fine one it is.
Hi Chris. Appreciating your complements.
I keep the same image for general social media uploads. the border is result of that. but what your are mentioning is making sense. let me see how can i start differentiating the decision of border as per particular images.
thanks.
Hi Vijay. I am sorry to say that this one doesn't really work for me. I think that the bottom half and the top half are too disconnected. I'm sorry Vijay! You know I love your stuff. :)
Hi Ruth, no worries. Am clear about my concept. this was clicked a great while ago and am growing in this art form.
The most important thing is hiw YOU feel about it!
Just to show how subjective this type of work is I am in general agreement with Chris.
I love the contrast in all aspects (tone/texture/form) between the upper 2/3 and the lower 1/3. You have done a great job at balancing top & bottom, for me it is spot on.
I'm not sure I agree with Chris though on the frame for this image. with the upper section being high key I feel you would likely lose the edges to some degree (when set against the white background of the post) and this may not sit well with the eye.
I do wholeheartedly agree with Chris on the temptation nowadays to process for initial impact rather than longevity, so I also appreciate your measured restraint on tis.
Well done sir!
Hi Alan, Thanks for encouragement.
Alan, About the border, I understand your logic.
Take your point about the top losing definition against the white background without the frame, Alan.
Hi all,
Another point discussed in this thread is about initial/instant or infinite impact of the image. Interesting.
Well, in my growing and learning stature in this art form, I really do not think about impact as of now. My present route is to enhance each image for its concept and art. Sometimes the work is fast and sometime slow. believe in achieving merit over marks.
Recently started visiting my older work again due to the restrictions posted by present. Wonder !! am enjoying seeing each image all over again. Though mainly its processing, I can see the change in my thought process and its encouraging.
Thanking you all for sharing your valued knowledge and insight.
