SOLITARY

A stroll at the river bank in mild breeze and morning freshness at the sun-rise. The lone bark and ripples in water made me stop for long. For once, was not keen on having any bird on the top as I felt the tree deserves it solo importance in this frame. Patience paid off and got the click I wanted.

Clicked many months back. Reprocessed in PS for tonality and depth creation.

The idea is good Vijay, including the bare branch with no bird. However the composition is marred for me by the proximity of the tree's tip to the image edge. I've taken the liberty of tip-pruning it.

Also, I don't know if you manipulated the image with something like Warp or Liquify, but the bottom part of the reflection looks too far left to be reflecting the tree above; I've moved it to illustrate my point. If I were you, and HADN'T manipulated it (i.e. if it IS right, but doesn't LOOK rignt) I'd be torn as to whether to tamper with nature. This may sound crazy, but with so little in the image, what is there is subject to closer scrutiny.

REALLY going for the borders here, BTW! ;-)

Hi Chris.
I take your indication of leaving some space on top. something I know yet often miss. and now that I recall, in many of my old frames.

No I haven't tampered with nature !! no manipulation in PS. and for that matter, my frame is original and looks correct to me.
Thanks.

Hi Vijay. This is wonderful. It should go straight to print and hanging on the wall. I love it. I agree with Chris about adding space to the top. The reflection seemed fine with me. Super job!

Hi Ruth. Sure. looking for the day it sells with signature on demand. ha....ha...
Till then will work hard to reach there...

updated second version...

That's good at the top now, Vijay.

On the other hand (sorry!) now the horizon nearly bisects the frame. I'd crop off the bottom i.e. if you cropped a fair bit to start with, do the equivalent of tilting the camera up a bit, compared with the first version.

Also, I think the image is very slightly rotated clockwise. Again, with such a simple image, what is there is more subject to scrutiny. And again, I'd rotate it until it looks right. Spirit levels and inbuilt virtual horizons are not accurate within a fractoin of a degree, whereas the eye can spot this.

This being a body of water with uneven banks, it is hard to be sure what IS exactly horizontal, so I'm going by the appearance of the water surface. The resolution of your original file may allow you to line up the distant ripples against a grid for more accurate alignment.

You DID want CC...

;-)

I really like the fact that as a photographer you can visualise the shot and the trees significance. If I mentally remove the tree is seriously detracts from the image. The reflection combined with rippled water surface contribute to a fine shot.

Thanks Mike

Hi Vijay, I'll not say much as my feedback has more or less already been stated.
Fine image, worthy of printing & hanging.

Hi Alan. your encouragement is appreciated.

I really like this one! I agree with others that a little more room up top helps.

Thanks.
