I really like the first image, I think the splash (....) of color adds contrast and interest.

Prefer the colour here, Chloe, although I'd have made it a purer blue rather than purplish. But then I'm a sucker for colour. Agree with Vijay that the second might benefit by higher contrast.
Maybe, as it's a kind of abstract, textural study, the best rendition WOULD be B&W, to highlight the pattern.
Given the vertical streaking of the water, I'd be inclined to do portrait orientation versions as well. I imagine I'd have fun here playing around with different compositions. You're on to something with this. Experimenting, as ever!

For me, image 1 needs some work for colours. For this discussion, am inclining towards image 2. though it needs some contrast.
