I'm thinking of submitting this pic for a minimalist contest but I feel with all the action at the bottom it might just be to busy for minimalism.
Thoughts?
This is so subjective Tommy. It could be easily argued that the 'action at the bottom' is an integral part of the subject nd in that way would better fit the minimal definition.
I would say it is a bit too busy to be minimalist. However, don't discount eliminating it and concentrating on the two lampposts or even showing a sliver of the fencing. It will make an excellent photo.
However, if I were looking for a minimalist take, I'd zoom in on something, probably just those elegant lamps. The mere variation in size and level begins to tell the proverbial "story", that there is depth to the image, something going on here, but this is more implicit than in your image, where the railings give more explicit context. The appeal of some minimalist images lies in their telling us something, but only implicitly.
I agree here, to really lean into the minimalist thing I would focus in on just the lamp posts.
I love the angle, the orientation and the grey shore or cloud that's hanging just above them.
This is one of those images I could stare at for hours and just imagine the conversations that the lamps on the right are having, or what the left lamp is thinking!
great use of the grey tones too to add just enough atmosphere.

Good luck with the competition.

It is an interesting image, Tommy, as it is.
