DSLR iPhone comparison

Building on my earlier post "Experiments on the iPhone", here is a direct comparison of the same technique using both iPhone and DSLR.

Given that I almost certainly paid less attention when both taking and processing the image from the iPhone I think this shows that acceptable results can be achieved from the camera in your pocket.

Perhaps next time out I'll try to do a better like-like comparison.

Which do you prefer? Comments encouraged as always.

I think the answer to the question as to whether a cell phone has the capability to be used to take quality photographs has long been answered. Of course, the true answer is slightly more complex, as it depends on what the ambient lighting might be, what the use case is, whether your phone has a long enough or wide enough field of view, and probably a dozen other things if we thought about it. But generally speaking, the best camera is always the one you have with you.

FYI, my personal preference is tor #2 because it has a more interesting background. Your mileage may differ.

I think I would like both of them the same if the first one had a little bit clearer clock face. Otherwise both have great colors and backgrounds! The effect is fantastic with either the camera or the phone!

Thanks Jennifer. Just as an FYI - the detail in the clock face could be increased by masking in from other layers. This is basically how that was accomplished in the 2nd image, like I said I paid greater attention to that one.
