May is here - a time to get out and grow

As Spring finally hits the Northern hemisphere perhaps we should follow the lead of Mother Nature. and look to bring new energy and growth to our talents.

With our lives being disrupted over the last year and beyond 'May'be this would be a good time to take the opportunity to get outside, enjoy nature and expand our skillsets.

As Spring signifies new growth I put forward a challenge. As well as contributing your signature work make a concrete effort to try a genre you may not be associated with.

For example - if your main body of work has been experimental push yourself to focus some time on minimalism, abstract or even landscape work (which may be experimental to you....)

Of course we still want to see your work otherwise, and love to hear your feedback in discussions.

The world is out there waiting to be captured, I am hoping that like I others are inspired by this new season and our growing freedom to travel.

I suppose I should lead the charge on this. While I always try to remain open to all genres of photography it is easy to be overly focused on a single subject type. technique or genre at times.

This opportunity caught my eye whilst visiting an art museum on vacation.

I'd love feedback in general, and especially details on the key elements that you like or feel detract from the images.

Which do you prefer? Does each evoke a similar response in you?

Both must be B&W. I like the photo with the Art work for two reasons:

1) Sense of location that is missing from the first photograph.

2) The face is looking in the direction that leads your eye to the art work. While the first photo leads you away from the large empty dead space behind.

Good points Dean, the images are actually going for different effects.

What do you mean by "Both must be B&W"? Are you saying both should be converted completely to B&W to suit your taste?

Only because I do not know that color of the walls.

Oh wait...I opened the files again and now I see the subtle colors.

I am viewing on an "inexpensive" 24 in monitor that doesn't have the best resolution.

I agree with Dean about the 2nd image - the subject looking towards the left and then the piece of art on the wall. I like the black and white for sure. I wish the subject was brighter with increased texture in his face/mask/clothes for some personality. I do like the way he is standing (arms and legs) and the way his head is tilting to the right while the wall extends to the left. It's a very balanced photo, and all the lines work great.
