Zeit, bitte, bleib stehen

I love taking pictures related to time. For this one I got inspired by the Rammstein Song "Zeit" (Time). The lyrics are something like "time, please, stop", so my intension was to freeze some time in motion. I was quite surprised to see, that I have to shoot at 1/8000 to get sharp sand grains. Never though about how fast they fall. Well, quite related to getting adult and realize how fast time is running. The upper part is not so well lit on purpose. Who knows how much time is left?! Also the focus is clearly set to the sand grains.

I love the lighting as well as the composition.

You just inspired me to attempt this. You haven't copyrighted the concept have you?

Thank you! Feel free to do your own and let us know about the result.

Great image. I really like the back lighting against the wall and the reflection on the table. On a technical note, you can remove the banding in the gradient by adding a small amount of noise to the image (which is not visible) to remove the banding. Of course not necessary if you don't mind banding.

Thank you! I don't mind the banding in this compressed and low res webversion. The original file doesn't have it. In the full res version is fine. Here I indeed added a bit of noise for this purpose. But thanks for the tip.

I LOVE the grains flowing downwards; even the sand that's on top of the pile that's rising as well. That is beautiful! Also the shape of the glass adds to it all. Great shot!

Thank you so much for your kind response!
