Red light, green light

Variation on the ITR theme. I have been wondering about if traffic signals could be a good fit as an ITR subject and finally got round to experimenting.

I think these do offer a good focal point to a story - in this case controlling the flow at a busy Boston intersection. There was actually a lot more traffic at the time, much filtered out via the layering process and choices made around what to preserve.

As always any feedback would be appreciated, from novices and veterans alike (a range of perspectives is always interesting).

I love how you chose to use the striations on the left to draw you attention to the focal point and again with the right side mimicking the left.

Well done.

("In Oregon, people riding bicycles are allowed to treat stop signs
and flashing red lights as YIELD signs." This is oft heeded...except for the yield part.)

Thanks Dean - where in Oregon are you? I'll be visiting my son outside of Portland next month.

BTW - I can't take credit for the 'striations'. That is just the natural character of the buildings.

7 miles south of Oregon City in Canby.

I love the different lines in the background - diagonal, horizontal, and vertical all working together with each other. You did a fantastic job editing all the busy little details too, Alan. I love the feeling of life moving forward all the time with something like a traffic light that stands still, always the same; yet at the same time, an unmovable object preventing chaos in all that forward movement.

Thanks Jennifer. I agree with both yours and Dean's assessment, the background really does play a critical part in the image.

I have ben experimenting further to get the feel for what does/does not work. This is a similar attempt that I feel lacks the same sense of movement and business.

It does lack the feeling of busyness contrasting with the stillness of the light. It looks like maybe this is a school (college?). If it was an elementary school, a line of kids walking up the sidewalk would be a neat idea.
