This is a seed pod of a Sacred Datura plant. All shape, texture and contrast. Hoping the composition works and the image is interesting. I was actually working on getting depth in marcro shots when I took this but have since taken a second look from an abstract perspective. It's an old image reborn I guess. Feedback welcome.
This composition DOES work and IS interesting, Ruth! I don't know much about macro photography; so if you get a chance to answer - what are your settings, what lens did you use, and how did you light it? Texture and contrast are two of my favorites in abstract imagery, and you captured it!
Thanks for feedback. it looks like the exif has been stripped. it is an old image. i haven’t been shooting much lately so I’ve been mining old stuff for new interest. I’ll look in my back up drive later. the light is natural. here is what i believe would be closest to the original image and the color version of the current one for giggles. i also LOVE abstract and focusing on the color, texture and line of the subject while still using composition strategies to get appealing images. i think it is important when doing abstracts that we dont forget composition theory just because the subject is a mystery. ,)
I understand about the EXIF information being gone. I always enjoy b&w photos; but in this case, I really like your second color one posted here even more. it's gorgeous with the transition of blue and green and yellow as well as the shadow and light contrasts! Thanks for posting it, Ruth!
Well said, Ruth. I share your sentiments about such abstraction, especially about composition. I love using such subjects (rock formations and water in rock pools near waterfalls are my regular "go-tos") and find that they provide enormous freedom to play with composition.
Great to see you posting again, Ruth! And with your typically fine images. I think this one is excellent, a good example of your knack of finding abstraction in the world of plants you know and obviously thrive in. For once, I struggle to say much about the image except that it appeals.
thanks Chris,
I actually like that this IS abstract. If it were any sharper it might look like you just got the focal point wrong.
As sharpness goes, I have experimented with focus stacking of macro flowers etc , This proves challenging outside as nature tends to move around in the breeze, but worth giving a go (indoors?)
i have done stacking of landscapes to fun effect but have not done it with florals. this gives me something to chew on Alan! thanks!
This is one example Ruth. I'll have to revisit macro once the burning, humid weather subsides.
this is lovely and does inspire me to hide in the shrubbery from the blazing sun to give it a try, :)
Abstract in nature might be a fun topic.
Indeed Pater - better get practicing now :-)
Reminds me of Chestnut trees. When we were growing up my brothers and I would say, "Here, catch" and toss them. It only worked once...after that it was full scale WAR!
I like the Black and White best. It gives an out-of-this-world look to it...an aliens space spore, perhaps.
Thank you Dean!
