Harry's Point Of View

It wasn't too hot today so I actually carried my travel tripod while walking Harry. I had it set so it was a bit taller than he was so I did not have to crouch and risk falling, and I tried to take pictures from his point of view. I tried to take pictures whenever and wherever he would stop to "smell the roses" (a useful acronym for what he was actually doing.) I pretended that he was taking the pictures (except for #3 I did not look through the viewfinder) and I tried to act surprised when his images looked like mine.

It was a bit of a trick carrying the camera on a tripod, using a cane, and holding Harry's leash. And Harry kept getting his leash wrapped around the tripod making life even more interesting.

The first two are composites. #3 and #4 are as they were shot, except I cloned out some macadam in the lower left corner of #3 and cropped #4 a bit. The rest have had their perspective adjusted so verticals are upright and then added the border lines and fills to preserve the 2x3 aspect ratio.

'...whenever and wherever he would stop to "smell the roses"....'

We always called it, "Checking their PMail".

I have, almost always, loved getting the camera low in a composition. And there are times it is difficult getting up.

Thank you for your posts as I find them adventurous and educational. Oh, and tell Harry I said, "Hello."

This is such a clever idea, Andrew. You should put together a little coffee table style book called "Harry's View" featuring all your images at his level. Who knows - maybe he'd become famous!

The title of the ongoing compilation of pictures taken while walking Harry is "Two Years Behind The Dog." This is a riff on an old Spencer Tracy movie, which was a title-only adaptation of a book by Richard Henry Dana Jr. A huge best seller in its day and an inspiration for "Moby Dick."

This title was accurate when I first thought of it, but that was some years ago. I keep it because Harry thinks it is clever. I think he was an English major (as was I) in another life.

That's perfect, Andrew. Do you have plans to publish the compilation at any point? I was going to ask you if I could get a chance to see Harry. He's not what I pictured him to look like - he's way cuter for sure. I can see him barking out orders in a British accent.
