Just catching up on some older images. When relaxing at the beach I noticed a series of interesting cloud formations and thought "why not'?
In the first I see a Phoenix rising, what do you see in these?
Comments always welcomed, as is any discussion that might engage the group.
From what I remember in the meteorology section of our science textbooks, these are mare's tails, right? I love watching clouds. #1 definitely looks like a winged creature. For some reason a sting ray comes to mind first. #2: several "people" holding hands in a line. For some reason #4 reminds me of scientific tools lying on a table. I can't figure out why though. Lol! Hope the time was relaxing for you.
Thanks Jennifer - I thought they were simply 'clouds' :-)
I am thankful for the education.
The first image stands out, Alan. I see something like a winged dragon, very nicely framed in the composition.
I'm a rather sudden convert to mono, so here's one take on it.
Incidentally, I've found that letting skies "blow out" a bit when chimping makes for better mono images when converting from colour, as the over-exposure is initially confined to the blue channel, so when converting to mono if the blue channel is then turned right down, a beautiful contrast emerges in cloudy skies. It mimics using a red or orange filter.
Before I did such initial over-exposure, I'd find a lot of noise creeping into the dark sky areas from the relatively under-exposed red channel. The banner image on my FS profile is an example where I had to do a lot of work to deal with this.
Thanks for the tip Chris, I'll have to check that out. I often convert also, tending to use the lightroom presets and/or Silver Efex to determine a worthwhile starting point.
