Following Charles' "Douro River reflection" discussion I feel that the subject of reflections might be a good challenge this month.
I feel utilizing reflections in images is largely overlooked in our photography, and I know that I for one need to consciously think about this more when out shooting.
Reflections can come from many sources, here are some of many ideas that spring to mind;
Water
- rivers, lakes
- puddles, fountains etc.
- wet sand (one of my personal go-to's)
Glass
- Mirrors
- Windows
- Glassware
Other reflective surfaces
- cars, metal objects, polished stone etc
While it may be challenging to shoot reflections in water for those in the midst of winter (reflection of a setting sun on a frozen lake may be appealing), there are still an abundance of opportunity as we stroll along our city streets etc.
See this is an excuse to put on your creative hat and get out there with this single-minded objective.
So let's see what you can achieve (or have done in the past), whether that be where a reflection is the primary subject or where they add an important element to the final result.
To help get you started here's a couple of videos that may inspire, along with a few of my own images I could pull up that include reflection in some shape or form.
I'd love to post more reflections which I'm taking on my trip but I just don't have the time right now.
Hey, no problem Charles, any time is fine. I'm looking forward to see what you come up with.
I had a difficult time with this due to spending the last six months working with Light, Shadows and Reflections, but thanks to the local Brew Pub/Hotel I found at least something.
Great photo!
Nice work Dean!
