More experimenting with the drone. I think my favorite thing to do right now with the drone are these straight down views. I think they make some really interesting compositions from angles that we don't get to see that often.
The structure is looking cool on the one side. The lines are almost parallel to the frame. The left is slightly tilted. On the other it appears a bit too busy for my taste.
Great shot, Kyle. I really appreciate straight down views like this one. I think the composition is well-done. Sure there are some critiques that can be made; but apart from PSing to gain control over individual elements, you don't really have a choice as to the positioning of the boats, etc. This was very creative, enjoyable to explore, and lovely colors.
Apologies Kyle, I thought I had already commented on this.
I enjoy the image, but in looking for suggestions for improvement I think the visual weight on the right is throwing the balance off a bit for me.
The first and second columns of boats are fairly uniform, but the right with its shorter dock and generally smaller craft just adds a sense of dissonance.
That said, I do like the image overall though, and am just being picky (as I would if it were my own).
I did experiment with cropping to look at options....
Yeah, I definitely agree actually. When I was taking this I struggled with finding a composition that was kind of symmetrical which is what I wanted. I thought about cropping as well but couldn't find anything that satisfied me. I think it's the marina's fault for not giving me what I wanted lol. One thing I probably could've done was go higher with the drone. I'm still hesitant to do that as it's a DJI mini 2 and has height limitations. Also, when going too high I get strong wind warnings which can affect it being able to come back automatically. So I didn't do it. Thanks for the comment!
