It's just the right balance between the subject and its surroundings. Your perspective for the second one helps give it an added uneasiness that the mural already evokes. Lol!

The first really pops (would make a wonderful card....). The second, although more subtle tells more of a story - one that is largely left to the viewer's imagination.
Yeah, that red really stood out. I think the second is a bit strange - I don't really understand it, which is why I photographed it at a severe angle to add to its strangeness.
