Time Blend Experiment

I've been experimenting with some time blending. This was my first time trying this so I am definitely open to any/all feedback. Especially if you have experience with doing this. I shot for about 5 hours. From 730pm to 12:30am Eastern Standard Time. I only used 100 photos for the star trails. They could definitely be better (also had to deal with people around the camp fire that could not resist turning on their flashlights every 5 seconds!) My goal was to blend sunset/blue hour colors (of which I did not get much of) into the night sky/star trails. I think I like the first one better my self (the one that does not have the trails in the reflection). I think the blend is smoother. Overall, for a first try I think these are decent, it's always hard to judge your own work. Would love to hear some thoughts/feedback on these. And any tips/tricks you have for time blending.

I wish I could provide valuable feedback, but I've never tried time blending or astrophotography; so all I can say is that these are beautiful! I like both for different reasons ... 1). the colors, the color cast, the lesser trails, the mood, and the composition and 2). the colors again and the reflection in the water; but I think number 2 doesn't feel as realistic due to it being brighter. Great job with your experimenting; I always enjoy seeing your work!

Thank you Jennifer! I know what you mean. I often times see things on here and don't really have any feedback to give so I don't comment. I appreciate it though! I agree with everything you said. I experimenting with putting the reflection of the stars in the first one too but I just liked it better with out it. Thanks again!

I like the first sky and water with the second beach, boat and hut being less dark.

I’m in agreement with Jennifer. No 2 is a bit of a contradiction- it’s obviously a night shot but is way too bright to be so.

I also haven’t tried light trails but do like your images. For my own taste I think I’d adjust the HSL/white balance as the blues seem a bit intense.

Great captures it must be said.

Yeah that's one thing I noticed I forgot to do as well. The blues definitely need to be adjusted in the foreground.
