Thanks for posting Ian. I think this is a fine documentary shot of a street scene set against some wonderful architecture.
I feel the shadow on the left of the frame is important to add depth to the image and isolate the highlighted woman.
Just to play around I have tried cropping to see if we could give more weight to the shadow area and give more emphasis to the people. Just to generate thoughts.
BTW - I love the architecture and low light in this image.
I actually didn't create this shot with this challenge in mind, but I aimed to highlight the architecture. I wanted as much of the houses in the frame as possible, from the 'stepped gables' (if that is correct English - google translated that from 'trapgevels') touching the sky, down to the street. I just waited for interesting light, the rest of the image is coincidence ...
It was only when editing, that I realized that it could fit in the challenge.
I also experimented a bit with different crops, there's lots to be found in this image I think. Here's a fairly aggressive one that I found:
Nicely shot, Ian. I agree with Alan on the need to crop if the subject is the shadows. It also portrays the height and narrowness of the setting much better. Great job on composition too.
