We had a cold rainy day this weekend which brought out some good fog. So I went out shooting barns and farmland, and I think the lonely tree in particular drew me to this composition. I was able to frame some leading lines in the tractor mud and grasses up to the barn as well
Very nice composition, Steven. You're right about the perfect leading lines - they're everywhere actually in this photo all leading to that sweet family of tree, bush, and barn. The distant fog also seems to help fade the background and bring out the subject.
Thank you!
I agree with Jennifer. That bold tree adds weight and balance to the right side of the frame, while the lighter tractor mud leads the eye on a merry path past the barn and through the image to the trees on the horizon.
Great job, Steven! I like the quiet, sombre atmosphere you've evoked here. Love that tree!
Interesting that you get such a good composition, as Jenny & Alan point out, despite breaking one of those "cardinal rules" by putting the horizon centrally (but if it's good enough for Hiroshi Sugimoto...).
Yeah in final cropping I found it had a very different feel with different amounts of sky or foreground. This one seemed to have more impact
