I like the shimmering if the thorns! The light spots above are a good idea to add depth. The rest is a bit black and nothing to see. Despite that the photo appears a bit flat and lacking interest.

May I add my idea? Making it a square where the line of thorns climbs from bottom left to top right corner. Add a bit light that the viewer van detect the leave. I would keep it quite dark, something in zone 3-4. And the light spots making the background continue to run in parallel to the leave above if the thorns are right now. That is just my idea, feel free to modify and take what you prefer!

Thanks for the comment and suggestions, I'll keep playing and see what happens!

This is really eye catching! I love the glimmering tips. That center one is beautiful. I also like the light circles above. I'd love to know how you captured it! Great job on this month's challenge!

Thanks for the comment. I used a studio light behind and slightly underneath the plant to highlight the spines. The light circles are spines from another leaf. I used a 50mm lens at f 5.6 so DOF was very small.

I get it! The light circles being from other spines is really cool to know. Nice work!

This is a compelling composition. I would have been tempted to go black and white, but the subtle green of the spikes really draws the eye against the dark background

Thank you. Actually black and white was my first choice but I could never get it quite right .

Cool, I love the "coordinated" bokeh dots above. Great catch.
