Gordon Webster's picture

House on the corner.

For the March Challenge - Exploring mobile - this is a photograph I took with my Pixel 8 Pro using the "Night Sight" feature. I have my phone set to generate a DNG raw and JPEG for each image so that I have some flexibility for post-processing the image in Lightroom.

Wonderful shot Gordon, thanks for posting. I’m impressed with how the low light has been handled, especially in the shadows.

You say you shoot in RAW + jpeg. Do you notice a large difference when it comes to processing (any big advantages?)

Thanks for the kind words Alan. I haven't done any kind of head-to-head comparison between the raw and JPEG files from the Pro8, but just going on my previous experience of how quickly JPEGs can get gnarly when you try to lift details from shadows ... Also, I would expect this to be doubly true for a small sensor camera like a cellphone.

I love your angle, Gordon. The desaturated colors are so lovely. The composition is lovely too. I especially appreciate how the lights don't dominate the shot. Everything feels so balanced. Great work in turning the ordinary to extraordinary.

Thank you Jennifer :-)

Ah...Not what I thought.

That's a great photo. The lighting is wonderful. I love how you caught the light on upstairs...really helps tell the story.

(I think I need to exchange my Galaxy 8.)
