Would you consider this as minimalism?

Hey!
I love to shoot close-up photography, insects specially, and have some pictures that I deffinetly would consider as minimalist examples like the one with the mantis and the long legged fly but... Would you consider as minimalist the bee and the ladybug? I have encountered feelings about them. Maybe smaller in frame would have been far better? In the bee one...more negative space needed. Any thoughts?
Im trying to connect my two loved shooting styles.
Thank you so much!

To me minimalism means images with a lot of negative space. So with that in mind, the first two images fit the description, the second two maybe not so much. But that’s just one person’s opinion.

Regardless, I wouldn’t worry too much about what boxes to put that in or what labels to put on. Instead shoot what speaks to you.

Yes totally agree. Thats my impresión woth last two pics too. Thats why I was wondering what to change to Make it more minimalistic, and more negative space is a must in both. Thanks

For me , it's just the second one. The ratio of stuff/complexity in the first one disqualifies it. If the view was pulled back a way and it covered less of the photo. But then, it'd be difficult to see the main subject.

Arguably, color is an element. Even simple images with many colors are not minimal to me.

I see more close-up photos, than minimalism.

To me I follow the etymology for the word, "smallest, least" from the Latin word "minimus".

Where "CLOSE-UP" is two words: CLOSE, in the form of an adverb meaning "tightly"; and "UP" also an adverb meaning, "toward".

Using my definition I believe second photo could be classified as Minimalism.

Great photos. Keep posting!

In all of you photos you reduced the content. A flower with an insect. If it is minimalistic or not, who cares? It is a good influence from my point of viewy as you are focusing on one subject. No distractions. This makes the photographs stronger. So keep on going!

#s 1 and 4 I don't think would be minimalist because of the color, details, and too much happening. I think #2 would be for sure. For #3 I'm not sure. No matter what, these are fantastic photos! Good job, Kike. I think #3 is my favorite. It feels like a perfect composition all around.

As with most genres I feel the boundaries are created within each individual's translation of requirements.
For me, any shot where the number and size of detail is rendered insignificant counts as minimal.

At the end of the day it is the quality of the image that matters, and how it is perceived by the audience.

FWIW - #1 speaks the loudest to me, but I'd like to see it without the dust spots.

Tha ks a lot for your feedback!
Yes! Hahaj #1 is one of the very first pics I took (around 2022 I guess) and was made with an old Canon which had dust in the sensor but I didnt even know how to clean it.
I moved to a sony a6000 now... And know how to take dust out....but still using the canon lens for macro!

Just to provide some context, here is a link to the 1839 Awards Color Competition Minimalism category.

You can see how the genre may mean different things to different people.

Wow! Thanks! Ill watch it carefully!
Im watching the way to try to simply insect pictures the most...
