Hanging out in Tacoma, Washington for a couple days I decided to try minimalist with my phone as I was walking around and also doing nothing.
#1 photo is next to the Studio 2 and 3 entrance of the Pantages Theater. We were walking to the Farmer's Market and it caught my eye.
#2 caught my eye as I was lying on the floor doing leg stretching exercises.
#3 & #4 are of the wall/ceiling of out hotel room as I was looking around.
These are great minimalist images, Dean. I especially love #2 - common vs extraordinary or art vs practicality. It's really interesting to look at. The last one makes me think there should be a man on the ledge. It comes off as the top of a building, and the ceiling as the sky. Hope you're enjoying your time there!
I am really drawn to the first, and the B&W in general. Monochrome seems to put a greater emphasis on composition and form.
Differing from Jenny, I find that color in #2 adds an extra dimension that draws me away from the simple graphical nature of the image - it just shows how opinions can differ (and both be correct!).
I'd like to see #2 reworked in B&W to see the difference.
I think it's great that you are getting out there with your phone. Have you ever watched the walkabouts the editor of FRAMES magazine (Tomasz) does on their YouTube channel? It's quite interesting to see his thought process.
