On social media I am constantly flooded by Selfies, so I thought I would try something different than the In-Your-Face-With-My-Face style of selfie.
1 - "Follow Me" this is probably my oldest of these and is based on the idea of "If you want to follow me, this is what I look like from behind." Simple Autumn photograph.
2 - "Dinner Guest" We may have all had an experience either feeling uncomfortable around someone and that is what I was attempting to capture with this shot. This is probably my most difficult Selfie, as the room as dark except for one light, plus the candle, and I had to scurry around to the chair, put on the sunglasses, hat and pose within 10 seconds. To accomplish this I sat in the chair for about 5-10 minutes; looked at each body part, moving each until I felt I had a good composition and committed the pose to muscle memory.
3 - "Quiet Time" We were at a mountain resort and waiting for a table for dinner. I was looking out the big window overlooking the lake and was mesmerized by the vapor rising off the water and the low fog. It was about 33°F and the moment it starting snowing my wife said, "Go. Just go." We ending up buying an overpriced can of soup for dinner, but I came away with this shot and more.
4 - "Through the Lens of a Brownie" This is the photo I posted a couple weeks ago, so I won't bore you with the details.
5 - "Through the Lens of a Chromat-O-Scope". I set the slide viewer on the ball head of a tripod and my camera a few feet behind. It needed precise alignment to get anything to work properly. This is actually viewed from the back of the viewer to the front that contains the focusing lens.
5a - "Through the lens of a Chromat-O-Scope" (Part 2) I wanted to try the shot again, but attempt to see if I could mimic the POV of a sensor or film. I needed a 18mm and 11 mm extension tube for this shot and the precision required was exponentially greater.
Great shots Dean, with such a range of stories. I especially like #2, 3 & 4, with 2 or 3 being my absolute favorite.
Another great set of photos and explanations! A treat for this Sunday afternoon. I always enjoy your creative experiments.
