Hey all, I'm a specialist in equine portraiture, focusing on show horses. I am fresh out of school(graduated from the Hallmark Institute of Photography in October) and am starting my business.
I was hoping to get some critique on my work before I officially open.
I also have images on Facebook that have mot been posted here at www.facebook.com/1.afphoto
First of all, thanks for sharing your photos and inviting some supportive feedback. Welcome to the group! For "Dash", I like the shot's perspective and the nice "triangular" shape formed by the lower corners of the crop and the horse's neck and nose lines. Horse's ears are forward and mane is wind tossed -- also nice. The only thing I'm not settled about is the lens flares -- are those naturally occuring or added?
For "Child Portrait" I again like the horse's posture -- ears forward and head turned toward the child. Catchlight in the girl's left eye is pleasing. I'm guessing you played with the saturation/tone on the image for a more rustic coloration? This is all subjective, but I think it works for the subject. The girl's right arm position is leading my eye to look for her forearm and hand (hidden by the horse's head). It's a nit, but a little unsettling at first glance.
I love the bottom one.

Abi, Please consider adjusting your watermark to something less obtrusive. I think you are ruining your beautiful photos.
I am also finding the watermarks to be distracting from the photo.
In the first shot, the ears are up and forward. The horse is engaged. Nice moment! In the last shot, the watermark takes over the image. The horse and the girl have a nice connection. Again, nice moment. I would prefer to either see the background or not. The background in this third shot is somewhat in-between, and therefore, distracting.
