Original Engine from Mark Donohue's 1973 Porsche 917/30-003

The original power plant belonging to the 1973 Porsche 917/30-003 which, with Penske behind him, helped Mark Donohue secure the Can-Am championship for that year winning 6 out of 8 races. To date, 917/30-003 is Porsche's most powerful racing machine producing anywhere up to 1500hp.

After winning the championship, the car was retired yet its successes didn't stop there. Donohue used 003's chassis to set a closed course top-speed record lap average of 221.160 miles per hour during the 1975 Talladega 500 NASCAR weekend - a record which would take 11 years to be beaten.

Tragically, the record winning run would be Donohue's last ride in 003 before his death just a few days later when he crashed his Penske F1 car during practice at the 1975 Austrian Grand Prix.

003 is still in use today and uses a similar, but non-original, engine for racing and events.
