Capture The Viewer

In covering a protest in Orlando, I had another photog jump up next to me and instead of focusing on the crowd, I turned the camera to capture his cool camera and I was very pleased with the result. I love to photograph other photographers taking photos when the scene is just right and this one was no exception. The textures of his hair, face, and the lighting were enough that this photo was better than all the drama in the rest of the shot. What do you think?

I agree, the textures stand out most powerfully in a B&W rendering. As I've been on a kick lately in my own stuff of removing Steve Martin-esque branches from my wife's head in photos... I see the post in the top of the guy's head and say, hmmm.
But I also have no expertise in photojournalism. Are structures like the post left in place as part of the imperative of reality?
