Scripps Pier

The Red Tide, is an algal bloom caused by the recent storms along the California Coast. The Spring 2020 Bloom is composed of luminescent dinoflagellates that when agitated release an emission of blue light. During the day the shore waters are a red clay color hence the name Red Tide, but at night the breaking waves look as if they are charged by neon blue bolts of electricity.
