Big Sky Country

Grinnell Glacier, in Glacier National Park, Montana, glimmers beautifully in the midday light as a storm front rolls in overhead. The hike to Grinnell glacier is incredibly demanding, beginning with a seven mile trek along the side of a mountain, with often only a few feet between you and a hundred foot drop. To cap off the trip, you must climb nearly 1000 feet in just under a mile to reach the Continental Divide where the glacier resides. After lounging for some time, the weary hiker must go back the way they came!

The view from the top was unlike anything I've ever seen, and well worth the effort. Beautiful dramatic mountains encircle the glacier and lake, while cascading lakes dot the landscape beyond the mountains.
