Land of the washer woman

Mist arrives in Canyonlands of southern Utah. And if you look, the sentinels guard well this ancient kingdom...in the land of the washer woman.

Mark, very nice job on this one. I love the transition from strong contrast in the foreground that softens as you transition through the frame. It provides an excellent atmosphere in the entire image.

Thanks Ed! The Moab area is/was so stunning and our first trip there (this was taken in 2015) left a strong impression. Unfortunately Moab has changed into a supercrowded tourist trap and we have avoided it and the hordes for the past few years...pity.

awesome

Thanks Boris!

I've been meaning to write a comment about this picture for quite some time. Absolutely awesome image!

My first trip to Southeastern Utah was back in 1963, the year before Canyonlands was designated as a national park. In 1963 Arches was still a very off the beaten path national monument.

The area was hard to get to in those days, and when you got there, you were by yourself.

You have truly captured the majesty of the area!

And speaking of which, judging by your love of the geology, if you haven't read it, you should have a look at the book "Basin and Range" by John McPhee. It's a brilliant tour of Utah geology through the eyes of a geologist.

And fortunately, there is still plenty of Utah that hasn't succumbed (yet) to mountain bikes and over-development.

Again, great image!

Cheers! Bob Henderson

Bob I wanted to thank you for your kind words, very much appreciated. As for th book, yes, sounds like something right up my alley!

I'll bet you enjoy it. Bob :-)
