A tanker loaded with 7,000 gallons of fuel burns on I17 in Phoenix, Az. A woman in a small car was killed. Heavy rains that day had contributed to the accident.
This is one of my earliest photojournalism scoops. I was the only photographer on scene with fire fighters. All the Phoenix daily photogs had come from the south and been blocked from access.
It ran front page in the Phoenix Gazette. An editor for the Arizona Republic turned it down. He got reprimanded for that choice.
