If you are new to videography, one of the most useful techniques you can add to your toolkit is shooting in a Log profile. This excellent video will give you five helpful tips to maximize your Log footage.

Coming to you from Videomaker, this great video will give you five tips for shooting video in a Log profile. If you are new to video, Log is short for "logarithmic." Log is a modified gamma curve meant to allow you to capture more dynamic range, thereby allowing greater flexibility in post, both in color grading and toning. It is a sort of middle option between normal video and full raw video. The problem with full raw video is that it creates an incredible amount of data, far too much to store and process for most operations. Log video will come out looking very flat and will always need work in post to look presentable, but it is well worth it for the extra latitude you get.
