Helpful Advice for Improving Your Images

Producing compelling photos can be a somewhat nebulous thing, but composition goes a long way in helping you capture the attention of your viewer. While composition is something one can spend a lifetime studying, one of the simplest but most powerful principles is to simplify the frame to draw more attention to your subject. This fantastic video tutorial will show you several effective ways to do that.

Coming to you from Roman Fox, this awesome video tutorial will show you a range of different ways to simplify photo compositions and create more direct and powerful images. There is a tendency to want to think additively when it comes to composition; we want to include as many interesting things as we can in the frame and often build our photos by including more and more elements. The problem is that we can often end up taking this too far, leading to overly busy shots in which the subject is not well emphasized, and it is not clear to the viewer where they should be directing their attention. Learning how to think in the opposite manner — with a subtractive approach — can go a long way to helping you make more powerful shots. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Fox.
