After a long period of mediocrity where Canon sat in the dead zone between going all-in on mirrorless and staying with DSLRs, Canon is back to producing superb cameras. Is this one of their best?
The Canon EOS R5 C is a mirrorless body that aims to be the ultimate hybrid camera. Not only is it a superb stills body with a 45-megapixel full frame sensor, but it also has 8K video and 12-bit raw. It is being regarded as something of a mix between the revered Canon R5 and the Canon C70 cinema body. The pricepoint of the R5 C more or less splits the difference between both cameras too.
It is undoubtedly an expensive camera — there's no getting away from that — but it also depends on what you will use it for. If you shoot cinematography and high-grade video, but also shoot high-end stills photography, this camera could, at least in principle, save you money. The R5 C clearly has its feet in both camps, but to a degree where you are sacrificing very little of either. As Gerald Undone says in this video, no camera is perfect, but this is the closest Canon has ever come. With regards to a hybrid body, it's hard to contest this point.

This is my favorite Canon camera for sure! I love the tech in this camera. It is definitely not mediocre. I love the dual mode one-or-the-other approach that Canon took with this camera (photo / video).
I have a Sony A7R IV, which IMO gives me away for what I am, which is a landscape photographer, not video. And I love that camera, also for its tech, as I am an IT nerd.
My perfect collection of equipment would be rounded out with an OM Systems OM-1, to keep this fantasy moving forward!

Sure this is a great camera but Canon had to solve their overheating issues by fitting a large fan and making this camera quite bulky. Not ideal as a stills camera to carry around all day.
As a creator, articles like this make me wonder why/how more creators aren't mad at Fstoppers.
When a creator like Gerald Undone, Caleb Pike, Peter McKinnon etc creates a video... it's a count down to see which Fstoppers writer will lay claim to the piece first.
Yes, the creator gets some free publicity but it's not exactly even. Fstoppers on the other, takes the creator's hard work and writes a short two paragraph piece, sometimes three so they can squeeze in their own affiliate links for the products the Youtuber talks about - NOT the actual creator's links found in the more info section of video.
Fstoppers has some great content when it's original, they don't need to be side hustlin' creator's efforts for extra money... do they?
