What Do You Want to See in the Sony a7S III?

Few cameras are more highly anticipated than the Sony a7S III, and Sony users are hoping it will leapfrog the current crop of highly capable cameras and reestablish the S line as a leader in video. What are you hoping to see in the camera? This great video discusses what creatives would like to see and what we can actually expect in the camera.

Coming to you from Kaiman Wong, this interesting video discusses the upcoming Sony a7S III and what we might be able to expect from the camera. The a7S and a7S II were quite the head-turners when they were released, with their unique 12-megapixel sensor offering strong video performance and jaw-dropping low-light performance. In fact, Japan installed an a7S II outside the International Space Station, making it the first consumer camera to capture 4K footage in space. Nonetheless, it has been been almost five years since the a7S II was released, and in the intervening time, cameras like the Panasonic S1H have leapfrogged it in capabilities, leaving many Sony fans eagerly anticipating the third iteration of the camera. Check out the video above for more, and let me know what you are hoping to see in the a7S III.

RAW output and a global shutter. A full-size HDMI port would be nice too. Instead we'll probably get 8K with a codec that renders it unusable.

The most awaited camera

A new user interface and a ergonomic body would be the 2 major needed improvements.

8к sensor with downscaled clear DCI 4K/60p 10bit 4:4:4 video with full blown XAVC (not XAVC-S) codec and global shutter. 1080/240p 10bit. A7RIV body and autofocus. Direct RAW output to SSD via USB-C.

Well for starters, the camera itself.

The only problem is that Sony abandons new camera features to focus on PlayStation 5 do to DRAM supply problems caused by corona virus in China.
-So forget any feature that needs speed, extra buffer, or extra data process.

1- A higher megapixel count, specifically a 4K area in the center 1.5x crop of the sensor, and super-sampling the rest of the sensor for the FF mode. Sony proved ridiculous high ISO can be had in 20+ mp cameras.

2- A RAW mode, of course preferablly in-camera but doesn't have to be. An Atomos ninja 5 taking that to ProRes RAW or CDNG would be fine like the Z6.

3- All the advancements that the other alpha line made, from colour science to menus to Z batteries to better preamps

4- 240p slowmotion at 1080p and 60p 4K minimum.

5- An EVF from those new massive Sony ones in the Leica SL & Panny S1

6- Personally, I would like to see another entirely new form factor. Why not design a body for video in the first place? Rotating detachable grip, bigger eye-cup, rotating high quality LCD, put in a couple of video inputs/outputs like a simple XLR and HD-SDI and full size HDMI. Most of us won't mind the hike in size as long as it's below 1DXIII territory which is a great body for pro video but lacks those sony innovations and EVF.

Oh DUAL SLOTS!

Existence.

I just want to see the camera itself.

A release date.

4k 60fps, 10bit 4:2:2 internal, voice control, flip up monitor like on a6400, better phone app, 100mbps+ codec, dual MICRO SD, I hate the big cards. Screw extra res like 6k or 8k... I want more color information. I'd prefer they do all this in the APSC setup too haha. I'm getting hooked on APSC ditched full frame a little while ago as I seldom if ever need it. I actually contacted Sony already to tell them about most all these features.
