How to Light a Portrait Using a Speedlight

While learning artificial lighting can feel a bit daunting, it makes you a far more versatile photographer and frees you up to explore many creative avenues that would not be possible otherwise. You do not need to start with expensive equipment, though; a speedlight and small modifier are a portable and affordable way to learn. This excellent video tutorial will show you everything you need to know to photograph a portrait using a speedlight.

Coming to you from Jay P. Morgan of The Slanted Lens, this awesome video tutorial will show you everything you need to know to shoot a portrait using a speedlight. Be sure to notice how you can create professional images even with a single light. Photographers sometimes assume that you need to use multiple lights in a complex setup in order to produce high-quality photos, and while it is true that multiple lights make you more versatile, you can absolutely create worthwhile shots with a single light. In fact, many photographers who work outside a studio actually prefer it for the simplicity. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Morgan.
