Angry Internet Photographer Gives Unsolicited Opinion

Angry Internet Photographer Gives Unsolicited Opinion

Lincoln, NE: A local photographer is causing a ruckus in his city's Facebook photographers group after he claimed he could shoot a better version of an image another photographer posted.

The photographer, Nick Allen, a local weddings, headshot, sports, fine art, and high fashion specialist, insists the shot had incorrect lighting, the wrong shutter speed, poor composition, and not enough filters.

Allen condensed his opinion to a slightly more succinct reply, although it may have been a good bit less tactful: "Thhis is sh**!! Ltrly pawn ur camera for some tacos b4 u starve. U suck!!!!!!!" He later noted including seven exclamation points at the end of the comment was not actually meant meant to be coarse, but rather an evaluation: "It seems excessive, but you have to know I thought carefully about it. Look, six exclamation points just makes you seem drunk. Eight make you look bitter. Seven was just exactly right. I wanted them to read that and know: 'You suck precisely seven exclamation points much.'"

Iris Trotter, the photographer in question, notes she was rather flummoxed by the comment that came seemingly out of nowhere:

Sure, I know who Nick is. He comes to all our group meetups and photo walks and likes to ask everyone why they're not using a 1D like him. It's a little strange, especially since technically, we're just a beginner's landscape group that focuses on hobbyists who want to improve and get out of auto mode. None of us are professionals; honestly, most of us are only really here to understand the basics and talk about the weather or go on the occasional group excursion.

Looking on Allen's website, Fstoppers was only able to find a single portrait that seems to have some sort of extreme HDR settings and a page that said: "coming in 2014." Asked about his comment, he said: "Look, I don't care if she's my grandma, Iris needs to buy a 1D and stop sucking."

Nick's a jerk and his photos are nasty! He needs a Hasslebloo er, Hastenbac, well... you know what I mean!!!!!!!

Hasselhoff.

HDR - Hasselhoff Does Rule

hahaha....BAHAHAAAAHAA!

Everybody knows that it takes a Hassendorf to shoot sharp images.

Why post these uselesss articles??????? <7

I don't find making people smile to be a useless endeavor, even if I can't make all people smile.

I agree that it is not useless to make people smile, but let's be honest, sometimes people will spend time reading an article they think is serious only to find that they just wasted their time. The general tone of this site is one that is serious, or at least used to be. That's all.

I have to agree with this. I personally like the articles; they make me laugh. It can be kind of confusing sometimes though since Fstoppers is usually only real news and not fake articles. There needs to be something to signal that it's satire beforehand, in my opinion.

I mean, it took less than 30 seconds to read this article, and it was pretty clear from the headline that it was going to be a humorous take on angry Internet trolls. It probably took more time to compete a thoughtful critique of the article (and I respect that your comment was a thoughtfully considered critique) than it took to read it.

Let's lighten up, folks.

Well, what I mean is that some people just don't understand it. There were a lot of people on the article about the pen tool who legitimately thought he had actually given up the job. Fstoppers has had three of the satire articles. Most people don't think of Fstoppers as a satire place since there have been so little. If they just made a small emblem or something then it might save some confusion. Like I said, I enjoy the articles. But it seems like there are always people who are confused or upset that they read it expecting a real story.

I saw the headline on this and immediately thought "this will be funny". And I was not disappointed.

If Fstoppers readers couldn't spare the 30 seconds to figure it out by reading the article (if they didn't already figure it out from the headline), they probably should learn better time management skills.

I wish I could upvote your comment more than once. My primary goal at all times and in all situations is to make people smile. If they laugh, it's icing on the cake.

Peter Brody is a rad name.

completely agree, I use this site to find useful advice, NOT, to read this crap. You don't deserve to be posting on this site if that's what you're going to do.

I really hate it when articles make me laugh...really messes up my grumpy mood.

Try something serious and interesting; that works too.

yea free entertainment sucks man - I can totally relate!

You must be really fun at parties...

I didn't realize reading the articles on this site was analogous to being at a party. Where are the drinks?🍹

nice to have a balance of humour amongst the usual news and tutorials, kind of uplifting

One of my favorite clips!

Can you link us up with nicks website.. I'm trying to study up on my HDR portraits.

I do enjoy these parodies. Keep them coming.

I've met a guy in real life who thinks like this.

I'm pretty sure we all have.

photo walks

This kind of person does exist. He's an expat Brit living in Hong Kong. He claims to be a 'fashion photographer'. We still see him on the streets fumbling around and tripping over like Mr.Bean, while shooting a bunch of models. He has no life and is on FaceBook 24/7. He's joined a number of pro photography groups on FB and elsewhere and got kicked out from all of them for the same type of comments in this article.

So based on this guy's logic he's only a great photographer because he uses a 1D- thereby perpetuating the myth that equipment makes the photographer not talent.

How many photographers does it take to change a lightbulb? ALL of them. One to actually change it, and all the rest to explain in detail how they changed it wrong and how they personally could have done it better. Thats why a lot of us are kinda shy about posting images for fear of negative comments. I know its part of the game, but some of us are sensitive, ya know? :)

The list of his specialties was a very nice touch.

This was supposed to be about some guy issuing a challenge that he could take the same shot better. WHERE IS THAT NARRATIVE?

This is garbage.

Surely one ! will do? Growing up in OZ (Australia), I long ago found that people who use the 'f-word' all the time lose all impact - but my mother only ever used it once, and the effect was like a hydrogen bomb explosion.
