Whether you're in a studio or on location, understanding the fundamentals of light will allow you to create any image you want in any situation. For this image, I was outside along a wall with about 130º angle behind my subject. This allowed for a really interesting falloff of the background and in turn created a unique portrait. I blended my Paul C. Buff Digibee 800 (35" octa) with the ambient light to enhance the photo even more and fill in the shadows on her face while allowing the background and foreground to become slightly underexposed.
