A Guide to Retouching Portraits

Of course, knowing how to light and pose a portrait is essential to creating a successful image, but the process does not end there. Having an effective, structured, and efficient post-processing workflow will help ensure that you can create polished shots every time. This helpful video tutorial features an experienced portrait photographer sharing his workflow.

Coming to you from Jiggie Alejandrino, this great video tutorial will show you an effective portrait retouching workflow. If you are new to retouching portraits, perhaps the most important thing to remember is simply to take it easy on the adjustments. Modern editing software is tremendously powerful and allows you to make massive changes with just a click or two, and as such, it can be very easy to go overboard and end up with a final image that is overly artificial and unflattering, which can ruin what would otherwise be an effective shot. Generally, a lighter touch will serve you well, especially when you are first starting out and working on building your eye. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Alejandrino.
