Is the Canon RF-S 18-45mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM Lens the Affordable Alternative to More Expensive Options?

Many of my Canon's RF mount mirrorless lenses have been spectacular performers, but on the other hand, many of them have been quite expensive — sometimes eye-wateringly so. At $299, that makes the Canon RF-S 18-45mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM a refreshing prospect? Can its performance and image quality surpass its budget price, though? This excellent video review takes a look at what you can expect.

Coming to you from Christopher Frost, this great video review takes a look at the Canon RF-S 18-45mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM lens. No doubt, Canon made some compromises to get this lens to its price level, but it is not all doom and gloom. At just 1.7 inches (4.4 cm) long and weighing 4.6 oz (130 g), this lens is particularly portable, making it a nice partner to a compact APS-C body for things like daytime hikes or travel photography. Clearly, you should not expect top-shelf performance or image quality out of it, so if you are looking for professional results, you should probably look elsewhere. However, if you are interested in a cheap, portable option that produces workable images, it is at least worth consideration. Check out the video above for Frost's full thoughts on the lens.
