[Video] Impressive At High ISO – Ruin Porn Shot On Canon C300

penitentiary video exceprt [Video] Impressive At High ISO Ruin Porn Shot On Canon C300 The Canon C300 can utilize a Gamma Curve called Canon Log to increase it’s usable dynamic range to a remarkable 12 stops (explained in detail here). Kevin Ritchie spent a day at the Eastern State Penitentiary in Philly just testing it out, and I think the results are a great real world example of the power of the C300/Log Gamma combination. Shots look clean at 6400 ISO! Is anyone else as excited for this camera as I am?

The first video includes the before and after grading of the footage, as well as what ISO the clip was shot at. The second video is the graded short by itself.

Absolutely, I’m very excited in this camera in particular. I’d love to try the EF mount version. I think it’s so awesome that, despite the new tech that comes along, our lenses will live on alongside them.

looks great but all the skys are still blown out.. really want to see more focus on dynamic range over mega pixels!! good start though

It’s still waaay too expensive for a camera that only does 1080p. Especially now when 4K TVs are starting to pop up. If you want to do something for the cinema, 1080 is too low res.

Agreed. Accord to his video description, he used these: Canon 28mm 1.8,
                Canon 50mm 1.4, Canon 100mm L Macro, and the Canon 70-200mm L.

In case anyone’s interested, a good chunk of Theodore Dreiser’s novel, “The Financier” is set in this prison where the hero is locked up after the financial panic of 1871 takes him down.  There are first rate descriptions of the place and its “scientific layout” and what a few bucks would buy in special treatment (those little yards off the ground floor cells were highly sought after.)  I google earthed the place while reading the book but this is so much better.

Eastern State is such a great place to shoot. It’s a shame Byberry was torn down, it was also wonderful
