How does this photo showcase minimalism exactly ?

I thought of Minimal equipment, when I submitted this. For people that use multiple lighting setups, and technics, one Strobe is minimal. I see the submissions that are Real minimalistic genre. I would have called most of them environmental abstracts. But, I've never tried to shoot a real minimalistic style. I tried to remove them, but couldn't. Or was you just trying to be a smart ass like most of the people I've seen on here?

Minimal image =! minimal equipment ( I do landscapes mostly, I only use the camera and a tripod, that would mean all my images are minimalistic ? ).

Sure, the contest's description isn't the best, but it's about minimalistic images, not the result of minimal equipment which can be anything.

It's "very simple" to do minimalistic photos.
Difficulty is in creating a very good minimalistic photo.

Try shooting a single pawn on a chessboard.
Do it in black & white with some dramatic ( side ) lighting.

Shoot it at an angle where the white & black squares of the chessboard will be barely seen ( as that pattern would make it a non-minimal photo ).

Thank You, That's very helpful. And, sounds like a great picture just from the description. I've looked at your work and I love the Shipwrecked III and Forever alone. Thanks for understanding my confusion. I'm going to give this a try and will be posting some, and would love your input. Thanks Again.
