On the last of our 3 rainy days in Zermatt, we again had to set up our tent in a state of emergency to create a shelter from the storm. With nothing better to do in the tent I fell asleep around 18:00, and woke up at 3:00 in the morning. Just to make sure the world still existed, I peeked out the tent and found the milky way arching over the Matterhorn.
For the next 5 hours I was shooting different exposures of the milky way, trying to eliminate some of the clouds that were still rolling by. Just before sunrise I shot another exposure of the foreground and the matterhorn. Blending the two together turned out to be quite hard because of the difference in noise level between the stars and the mountain, and the clouds that were covering the mountain at night were gone in the morning. I couldn't remove the clouds because I had no data of the night sky that would be behind them. any tips?
Not sure why people are not giving this image 5 stars, maybe they are jealous they couldn’t take an image like this? Great work love it, I wouldn’t change a thing about it.
Wow mate thanks! I'd actually love to go back and try this image again haha. There's always room for improvement!
I think it depents also on taste giving an image 5 stars. I mean the subject is perfect and how all comes together the meteor, milky way, reflection and the mountain, simply a great composition with awesome light. But giving it 5 stars the actually look doesn´t full fill my taste :) so I gave it a 4. A good one!
I agree with that! That's why I think it's important for contests like this to focus on the technicality rather than trying to please the taste of the judges.
